Singer Island, the underdog of the Gold Coast

Looking for a Gold Coast destination that won’t break the bank? Look no further than Singer Island Florida. There are definitely some pros and cons to this little island but it gets the job done when it comes to relaxing beach vacations.

Singer Island boasts sandy beaches and fun surf to play in. There is also a wildlife park located on the island. The island itself is pretty quiet and low key, but if all you want is sand and water, it’s perfect for that. Careful where you walk on the beach sometimes some not-so-fun surprises wash up. Singer Island does require you to have a car because there isn’t much within walking distance from the various hotels. However it is a relatively short car ride to reach shopping and dining. It’s also not too far from Palm Beach…we always spend a couple of afternoons on ritzy Worth Avenue. Side note about Worth Ave; if you have an instagram obsessed teenager, take them here for an impromptu photo shoot, the backgrounds are to die for. Singer Island is a less than 3 hour drive to Disney. We have done single parks in a day while staying here. It’s also a less than 3 hour drive to Miami and all that the Miami area has to offer. Singer Island is close to a marina that offers sport fishing and oddly enough shark diving. Yes my husband and father did a shark dive that left from very close to Singer Island. Speaking of diving, you can certify here and they also have great snorkeling out at Peanut Island. If the time of year is right you might just see some Manatees, remember to look don’t touch.

So here is a quick breakdown of my pros and cons

PRO’s

  • affordable

  • quiet

  • driving distance from lots of things

  • good snorkeling and diving

  • beautiful beaches

  • water that’s fun to play in

CON’s

  • it’s quiet…there isn’t much to do here without leaving the island. In previous posts I have talked about how I love to be able to walk to do things. That’s just not here. Like there are sidewalks but they just run through neighborhoods, and holy smokes if you are going to run in the morning use the bike lane because all the retirees are out getting their exercise. And I also think the entire island goes to bed at 7pm.

  • the food options on the island are subpar. I love to eat, and I love to eat boujee things. Those things just aren’t here. You can drive off the island and find them though.

Overall, it’s not the most exciting spot in Florida but it’s better than -20 degree winters in Minnesota, and a week of R&R is sometimes just what you need.
