New York City…At Christmastime

There is something about New York City at Christmastime that is absolutely magical, like small child on Christmas morning and Santa has just shown up, MAGICAL. The energy that runs through this city can’t be matched and during the Holidays it’s cranked up even more. Going for a long weekend in December is one of my favorite things to do .

The Rockefeller Christmas Tree

Step one to perfecting your NYC stay is picking the right hotel. In New York City location is everything. Stay near the things you want to do. Also plan on a lot of walking, because walking might just be faster than taking a cab or Uber (A little tip from me to you, if you are getting a ride meet them on a street that is heading in the direction you want to go this will save you a lot of time). We always stay on Times Square and embrace the chaos. It’s the perfect location for us and what we want to do.

Here’s a list of my can’t miss things

  • Rockefeller Tree and skating. Yes you will pay a fortune to ice skate at The Rock but does it get anymore iconic than that…no.

  • See a show, aka The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular. It’s amazing and they sell cookies. But for complete transparency, my kids opted to see Book of Mormon instead. Book of Mormon is fantastic but definitely geared toward a different crowd.

  • Dyker Heights. Dyker Heights is located in Brooklyn and they are known for a phenomenal Christmas light displays. House after house goes all out and it’s nothing short of amazing. We lucked out this year and Kith hosted a pop up shop while we were there.

  • Hudson Yards. This little gem hangs over 2 million twinkling lights and words don’t really do it justice. Grab your patience, dodge all the influencers, and go take it in.

  • Fifth Avenue, in particular Saks Fifth Avenue. Their light display runs every 10 minutes from 5pm-11pm. Feel free to do a little, or a lot of shopping while you are in the area.

  • Bryant Park Winter Village. This European inspired open-air market offers lots of shopping, iceskating, and fun food (think state fair food).

  • Visit a museum. This trip we opted for the Brooklyn Museum to see the Virgil Abloom exhibit. It was worth the trip and the traffic from Manhattan to Brooklyn.

  • Eat pizza and have cheesecake. You will be walking off the calories anyways.
